Acupuncture

EGEA now offers Acupuncture treatments with a Licensed Acupuncturist. Acupuncture helps your body repair itself and improve circulation. It is known to help many conditions including physical, mental, and emotional conditions. Acupuncture is a 3,000-year-old healing technique of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 1997, the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) documented and publicized acupuncture’s safety and efficacy for treating a wide range of conditions.

Benefits of Acupuncture:

Promotes blood flow

Everything the body needs to heal is in the blood including oxygen, nutrients, immune substances, hormones, analgesics, and anti inflammatories. Blood flow decreases with age and can be impacted by traumatic injury or disease. By setting up electron gradients between two metal acupuncture needles positioned along areas of decreased flow, acupuncture has been shown to increase blood flow and vasodilation locally, as well as systemically.

Stimulates the body’s built in healing mechanisms

Acupuncture creates micro traumas that stimulate the body’s ability to spontaneously heal injuries to the tissue through nervous, immune, and endocrine system activation. As the body responds to and heals the micro trauma inflicted by the acupuncture needle, it also heals any surrounding tissue damage left over from chronic injuries that the body was unable to heal on its own.

Acupuncture releases natural painkillers

Inserting a needle sends a signal along the nervous system to the brain, where chemicals such as endorphins, norepinephrine, and enkephalin are released. Some of these substances are 10-200 times more potent than morphine! Intensity and perception of chronic pain states are reduced through a process called “descending control normalization” which involves the serotonergic nervous system.

Acupuncture relaxes shortened muscles

By releasing trigger points or stimulating the neuromuscular junction in a muscle, contracted muscles are “reset”, which in turn releases pressure on joint structures and nerves.

Acupuncture reduces stress

Recent research suggests that acupuncture stimulates the release of oxytocin, a signaling hormone that regulates the parasympathetic nervous system. In states of stress, the sympathetic nervous system works in overdrive, creating a “fight or flight” response which accounts for so many of the symptoms of stress. The parasympathetic nervous system is the opposite of the sympathetic, and activation of it allows the body to “rest and digest”.

Try Acupuncture for treating conditions ranging from pain to stress, anxiety to insomnia, or chronic illnesses.
